Murphy, NC Voting Info for New Resident’s

May 17th, 2022 is our Primary Election – Here’s some helpful information so you know all you need, to exercise your right to vote.

As you probably can tell by all the political candidates signs displayed all over the county, there's an election coming up. If you have been a member of any of the Murphy or area wide Facebook groups, you know there are certainly some hot topics discussed in the political realm. 

 

The population of Murphy, according to the 2020 Census is  1,687. *1 Cherokee County itself has a population of 29,028. *2. We are a small town and a small county. Less voters means that every vote carries more weight. 

 

At Exit Realty Mountain View Properties, since we're in the business of selling homes to people, we're concerned that our customers, and others here have the resources you need to become an integral part of the Murphy, Cherokee County, and Tri-State Area. 

 

Especially if you are new to the area, knowing whom to vote for can certainly be daunting. You don't have the background knowledge that you probably did in your previous hometown. Plus, in the climate of the world today, you certainly want to vote for the people and issues that make a difference to you. But how do you know? 

 

So in order to be a well educated voter, here are a few things that should help you make the choice of who will be moving forward to the general election, and who might, or might not, become your elected officials. 

 

Here's some basic information on the election itself. Later on we will cover some resources where you can find out more information about who &/or what will be on the ballot at your address. There will also be some links to resources to learn more about the candidates you have to chose from.

 

Which Party you will vote for in the Primary - see https://www.cherokeecounty-nc.gov/441/Voter-Information

You will vote for the party you have chosen when you registered to vote. If you chose unaffiliated, you will have to chose to vote either a Republican or Democrat ballot.

 

Voter registration, early voting, and where to go to vote - see https://www.cherokeecounty-nc.gov/441/Voter-Information

The voter registration deadline was April, 22. However, if you vote early, during the One-Stop Early Voting Period, you can register and vote the same day up until May 14, 2022. May 14th is the last day for early voting before the May 17th Primary Election. You must vote at the Cherokee County Board of Elections Office at 40 Peachtree St # B, Murphy, NC 28906 https://www.cherokeecounty-nc.gov/441/Voter-Information

 

The early election hours are as follows:

Friday, May 13

8:00 a.m. - 7:30 p.m.

Saturday, May 14

8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

 

Tuesday, May 17th is the Election Day for the Statewide Primary vote and the deadline that absentee ballots must be returned by.

If you're still not clear what precinct you belong to. You can check your voter registration visit the North Carolina Voter Page at https://www.ncvoter.org/your-ballot-and-precinct/ Here you can also choose the Primary Election and get a sample ballot for your Precinct. While you are there make note of the Precincts and Districts for further researching the ballot in your area.

Ballotpedia will look up the candidates by your address. It has quite a bit of information and will show you both parties candidates so if you are unaffiliated, you will be better able to decide, which candidates you prefer.
